  Acupuncture

Acupuncture, existing for thousands of years, is the insertion of a hair-thin needle into a specific point of energy (Qi) on the body to simulate a physiological change.  It increases circulation, stimulates the body to release corticosteroids (the body’s own anti-inflammatory) and endorphins (the body’s own pain relievers).  Acupuncture stimulates the body’s self-healing mechanisms.

Chinese Herbs

Before pharmaceuticals and even the use of acupuncture needles, herbal remedies were used to heal and balance the human body.

Chinese herbs have shown their effectiveness under the scrutiny of both empirical study and modern clinical trials. These herbs can be used to augment the treatment of a particular imbalance, working together or sometimes in place of acupuncture and other medicines. Unlike most drugs, the herbs are put into complex formulas that are specific to an individual's condition, not just any one symptom.

Ilibraryphoto.gif (26895 bytes)n the past, patients had to purchase a large bag of raw herbs, cook them for a half hour every day, and drink not-so-great tasting teas. Though that option is still available to you, convenient patent medicines have become readily available. These take high quality ingredients and put them into small pills or powders that are easy to take and taste much better.

Herbal remedies are usually taken a few times a day and can be used for as little as one month, to as long as one year. Herbal consultations can be included in an acupuncture visit with the only extra charge being the cost of the herbs themselves. They can also be done separately, and unlike acupuncture, follow-ups are only needed every other week. Herbal medicines are usually immediately available following a consultation.

Massage Therapy

Massage is one of the oldest, simplest forms of therapy and is a system of stroking, pressing and kneading different areas of the body to relieve pain, relax, stimulate, and tone the body.Massage does much more than create a pleasant sensation on the skin, it also works on the soft tissues(the muscles, tendons, and ligaments) to improve muscle tone.Although it largely affects those muscles just under the skin, its benefits may also reach the deeper layers of muscle and possibly even the organs themselves.Massage also stimulates blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system (which runs parallel to the circulatory system), improving the elimination of waste throughout the body.

The Effects Of Massage:
Although a single massage will be enjoyable, the effects of massage are cumulative and a course of massage treatments will bring the most benefits.Regular massage can have the effect of strengthening and toning the entire body mechanism, and so help to prevent unnecessary strains and injuries that might otherwise occur due to excess tension and any resulting structural weaknesses.Massage can stimulate or calm the nervous system-depending upon what is required by the individual-and thus help reduce fatigue, leaving the reciever with a feeling of replenished energy. At its best, massage has the potential to restore the individual physically, mentally and spiritually.

Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

brainanin2.gif (47663 bytes)Hypnosis is a means of communication between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.  Many human problems, habits, stresses, anxieties, attitudes or apparent deficiencies can be traced to interpretations by the subconscious mind which, when understood by the conscious mind, can reduce or resolve specific problems.

Hypnosis is effective in dealing with:

  • weight management

  • smoking cessation

  • stress reduction

  • sports enhancement

  • reduction of test anxiety.

  • And much more...

What You Will Experience

Your first visit with your hypnotist will be primarily exploratory.  You will learn about hypnotism and become comfortable with it.   Your hypnotist will discuss your goals and your desires to determine if hypnosis can help you accomplish what you want to achieve.   If both you and your hypnotist agree to proceed, your hypnotist may give you some small test to determine your type of suggestibility, your ability to relax and your visualization process to allow the hypnotist to design programming specific to you.  This personalized program provides a process which will be acceptable to your subconscious, retained and acted upon in a manner leading to full achievement of your goals.

Tai Chi / QiGong

Qigong is an ancient form of self-healing originating in China. It has been called the mother of Chinese healing and is one the cornerstones of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Qigong is the phonetic transcription of two Chinese characters (Qi and Gong). Qi has been translated to mean vital breath or life energy, often described as the life force that flows through all living things. Gong means to cultivate, work at, or practice.

According to Chinese Medicine, health means a full and flowing supply of qi and a balance between the two fundamental influences of Yin and Yang. When qi does not flow, certain areas of the body have too much energy (Yang condition); other areas have too little energy (Yin condition). This imbalance results in disease. Qigong uses breath control and slow, relaxed motions to increase the flow of qi in the body. Deep breathing provides oxygen to the cells, blood and organs, and helps relax muscles and relieve tension. It also slows the heart rate and quiets the mind. Concentration along with continual movement between Yin and Yang (left to right, forward and back, reaching and bending) helps the qi circulate.

Qigong, then, helps to foster a state of mental and physical wellbeing by restoring balance to the body's life force. With the practice of Qigong, one acquires the skill of cultivating, guiding and inducing the body’s vital energy or qi to promote health and heal disease.

Yoga

The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.

What is commonly referred to as "yoga" can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word asana, which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.

Asana is only one of the eight "limbs" of yoga, the majority of which are more concerned with mental and spiritual well being than physical activity. In the West, however, the words asana and yoga are often used interchangeablyMany people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement (vinyasa-style yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained
